Talk:HOWTO Be A Warden

Wardens are appointed by Board of Directors/Officers. ?? Why are they appointed

TW: When I wrote the proposal, I had proposed elected. Someone changed it. It's something we need to decide. Right now it think its more "suckered" than anything else /happy face

GSS 1. why elect them, just adds to bureaucracy, appointing is what is usually done to authorize the members that are committee chairman, I would place the warden as a committee chair of the area. they have just as much authority appointed to make rules, submit budgets ect. with out the political power structure of being elected. Approval of the group if required a position vote could be called it more that one members is running (in your dreams)

2. the only other members elected are the board of Dir, and they appoint the officers. If they call for a group input vote, it is their desecration. maybe a nice thing to do but not required by the bylaws.

Remember KISS.

TW: The reason that adding a Warden election to the ballot interested me was that: 1) It gave a natural end of term. It allows Wardens to gracefully retire rather than quit. It also forces some introspection to re-up, which is probably a good thing. 2) It makes the General Membership THINK about Wardens, and electing them can give them a mandate, sort of. It still will be weak when we don't have enough members to field two candidates, especially when we can have co-Wardens. But appointment takes away responsibility from the Gen Mem and I think we should be trying to grow responsibility and a sense of ownership in the Gen Mem.

Designate work spaces in zones

At the next wardens' meeting: Let's talk about standardized signage for workspaces, beyond the spraypainted stencil. Here's an idea-jot of the sort of clarity I'd love to see:

ON THIS WORK SURFACE: Electronics lab, main benches
YES you can leave stuff here when you pop out for a meal or errand. De-sprawl it a bit, and leave a note: Name, date (ISO 8601 or gtfo), expected return time, contact info if there's any chance you'll be gone for longer. YES you can leave stuff here overnight, as above. Contact info required. NO you can't leave stuff here for longer, not even with a permit. NO "tomorrow" isn't a valid date. If you did this, check the graveyard...
Stuff left here without a note may be appropriated, stripped for parts, subtly altered, discarded, or otherwise dealt with in any manner.
This work surface should be COMPLETELY CLEAR when you leave, and your fellow members appreciate your care in sweeping up! Cords put away, debris swept up, dust wiped down. Feels good to come into a clean lab, thank you!
