VP of Membership

Membership has continued its duties to onboard, bringing 5 new members to active status since the last meeting while processing 12 new members through phase 1 and 6 through completing Phase 2. Current active membership including those on scholarship are at 207.

An update on the scholarship program. We had been waiting to process push existing scholarship holders to renew or process new applications while we worked through some of the issue causing us to be uncertain as to how many paying members we actually have, which sets our target for how many scholarships we should be able to accept. With that work complete we emailed everyone who had been on scholarship who's term had expired and gave them until May 16th to submit the application if they were seeking a renewal or let us know if they want to transition to a paid membership. With that deadline having just passed the Membership Committee (Frank Aloia, Thomas Burns and Andrew Youmans) will schedule a meeting to review and award renewals and new scholarships by the end of this month.

Proposal:
Add the mezzanine on B-side next to Wood Shop / above the cleaning supplies to the Storage Zone + turn it into overnight / short term storage (Proposed by: Aj)

Context
Right now, a decent amount of smaller projects and things that need to dry get left out on the tables in Commons or Wood Shop with a parking permit. This decreases the available working space for everyone else until the projects can be moved, and technically goes against the rules of parking permits (should only be in 'large project storage' or 'drying rack in MESA by kiln', but those aren't reasonable for certain projects). The B-side mezzanine is currently incredibly dusty and has things that haven't been touched since 2018. If it gets added to Storage Zone, Aj and Emerson could work on cleaning it up, organizing it, and setting up space for people to leave smaller projects (ex: glued up cutting boards / wood projects, small painted parts, cut up projects that haven't been glued yet, etc.) that's out of the way. This would free up working space for everyone else, and be safer for the WIP projects too, as they'd be less likely to get bumped or moved.

Aj has discussed this and gotten a thumbs up from Tim Clayson and Emerson Craven (reached out to Nick LaRocca too, but didn't get a response).

Proposal...?

Aj: I brought up the concept of making a Storage Committee in the last member meeting on 5/06. I was informed I can probably just do something like that and choose co-zone coordinators, but I'm mentioning it here anyway. We can skip over this if it's unnecessary.

I was also told 'committee' has a set definition and requirements in our bylaws and that this may change (may just make zones and committees the same thing?), so I was thinking of calling it 'Storage Reapers' instead. Basically, it'd be a group of people interested in helping maintain storage in the space. Reapers could help with annual / bi-annual Member Storage checks, keep an eye on member storage, and potentially help with organization if other Zone coordinators request such. I would still be Zone Coordinator, but this would hopefully help keep storage maintained and prevent any one person from getting burnt out by it, and would prevent things from falling apart as easily if I ever mysteriously disappear (not planned).

Please let me know if this is a good idea / bad idea / something I'm allowed to do, and what requirements / rules should be in place with respect to it, if any.

Any news from the city? Mara reached out and we have not heard back.
